E08: Clifford Walker – The Florida A&M Antichrist

On October 23, 1981, 19-year-old Millicent Elaine Wilson, a sophomore at Florida A&M University, was found murdered in her dorm room at Cropper Hall. Hours before the Orange Blossom Classic football game, students learned that a promising life had been taken in a brutal crime that shocked Tallahassee.

Investigators soon focused on Clifford Walker, a fellow FAMU student whose disturbing behavior, religious delusions, and incriminating letters linked him to the crime. Despite his denials, evidence including fibers, injuries, and handwritten confessions pointed to his guilt. Walker was convicted of sexual assault and first-degree murder in 1983, sentenced to life in prison, and remained incarcerated until his death in 2017.

This case remains one of the most chilling campus crimes in Florida history.

  1. Although many of your facts are accurate, some are incorrect. The victim was from New York City, New York, she was an only child, and the football game referenced at the end of the week was against Tuskegee Institute in the fall of 1981. Additionally, criminal justice students at Florida A&M University (FAMU) played an instrumental role in assisting law enforcement in solving the murder.

    1. Hi Dionne, thank you for that info, very informative. This one was very hard to source as I only found 1 complete write up of the case. I will look to correct any inaccuracies if/when I have time to rework the video. Do you have any sources that you can share with me? In particular I’d love to hear more about the criminal justice students and their role in solving it.

  2. I was a freshman at Florida A & M University when this sensless murder occurred. Although , I did not know Millicent personally it was a devistating ordeal of lost of a precious life. However,I heard she and parent’s was extremely rooted in their faith… Religon. Millicent was involved in many activities on campus… Bible Study Club, Sweet Heart for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated (Sigma Dove), Crooper Dorm Residence Assistant (RA), etc. It’s extremely heartbreking for a parent to send their only child off to college in another state to earn an education to better themselves in this is the outcome… Death! The entire FAMU community was in an uproar with student’s being withdrawn and leaving school not looking back. The perpatrator in thishorrific crime was Bible Study partner and friend, too. May Millicent E. Wilson’s loving and kind SPIRIT reign forever more on the Florida A & M University! RIP.

  3. Thank you the detailed information. I was a a senior biology major at FAMU at the time and knew Harriet Jackson as she worked in the biology office. I clearly remember arriving to campus that Friday morning and being told of the horrors in Cropper Hall and also experiencing an eerie vibration. Both FAMU and FSU campuses were quiet in the extreme and mostly vacant the entire weekend. When the ‘Set’ received a sidewalk expansion some months earlier, before the cement work dried, I, along with other students carved our names into the cement. When checking on my name months later, I noticed Millicent Wilson’s name carved above my name and I was momentarily stopped. I visited this section of the ‘Set’ for many years until the expansion was further redeveloped and the names and concrete were broken up and removed. Friday, October 1981 was truly a very sad day and FAMU was never the same for me. Although I left campus as a full time student in January 1991 (10 years later (with graduate/undergraduate degrees), I was witness to FAMU rising from the dark clouds to a bright future and my prayers remain with the Wilson family.
